Summer is here and we are off and selling ORENO HELLENIC LADI.
We are fortunate here in the South to have so many farmers markets selling local seasonal produce and the ORENO HELLENI LADI family is happy to announce that we are a vendor at one of these fine markets. The Traveler’s Rest Farmer’s Market (TRFM) in located in Traveler’s Rest, South Carolina and is open on Saturdays through October from 9 to 1. Check out their website for all the happenings at http://travelersrestfarmersmarket.com/
It is a joy to be part of the local market and as we talk to our family about all the friendly people we meet and all the edible items that are available such as greens, mushrooms, onions, eggs, asparagus, squash, seafood, meats, bread, pastries, and of course our EVOO we all become excited and grateful that such bounty is so available yet for a limited time. And just as wonderful are the non edible items such as the handmade jewelry, scarves, pillows that are oh so colorful, candles, soaps and lotions that are oh so aromatic, and the herbs and plants that are oh so healthy and colorful. So how do we make the most of what we have this summer?
Market Challenge
Our children came up with a challenge to help us with this. Come back with items from the TRFM that we can use along with our EVOO to make an evening meal. So we say “OK, we’ll take you up on that challenge.” Seems like a simple task, however the difficulty comes when deciding what to buy because all the products for sale are so fresh, pure and simple. Luckily we will be at the market all summer selling EVOO so we are able to buy from all the fine vendors.
Here are some of the delicious meals that we have prepared with the items from the market.
Pizzas with toppings that include bacon, sausage, shitake mushrooms, and sweet onions are a favorite in the household.
Simple fresh salads with goat cheese and our EVOO and freshly made crusty bread all from TRFM are enjoyed by us when we want just a light meal.
A favorite dessert after any meal or anytime is a strawberry cake made with oh so sweet strawberries or a smoothie made with fresh berries.
We are happy to say that we met and exceeded the challenge because we not only buy the edibles, but we have also enjoyed all the non-edible items that we continue to buy.
And now we extend the challenge to you. Come visit the Traveler’s Rest Farmer’s Market and while you’re there, stop by our table to visit with Joe and myself and try a sample of ORENO HELLENIC LADI extra virgin olive oil from Greece. See you there!
We would also like to thank Edible Upcountry for including ORENO HELLENIC LADI in the 2015 summer edition of their magazine.
